If you’ve been using Pinterest for your business but aren’t getting the traffic or sales you expected, you’re not alone. Many business owners treat Pinterest like social media, pin inconsistently, or ignore keywords - all of which can make Pinterest feel frustrating.
But here’s the truth: Pinterest isn’t broken. You just need a simple, strategic system to make it work.
That’s why I’ve put together this 5-step Pinterest Success Checklist, so you can stop guessing and start getting clicks.
By following this checklist, you’ll:
Set up your Pinterest profile correctly.
Create pins that people actually want to click on.
Pin strategically without spending hours online.
Track what’s working (and fix what’s not!).
Before you create or pin anything, your Pinterest profile needs to be optimised - otherwise, people won’t know what you do or why they should follow you.
1. Convert to a Business Account: This gives you access to Pinterest Analytics & rich pins.
2. Claim & Verify Your Website: This boosts your content’s credibility & visibility.
3. Write a Keyword-Rich Profile Description: Explain what you do & who you help.
Example Profile Bio:
Helping small business owners drive more traffic with Pinterest & evergreen content.
📌 Quick Action: Open your Pinterest profile. Does it clearly explain what you do? If not, update it now!
Pinterest isn’t a social platform, it’s a search engine. That means you need to structure your boards strategically and use keywords to make your content discoverable.
1. Create 5-10 niche-specific boards: Each board should focus on a specific topic your audience searches for.
2. Use Pinterest’s search bar to find keyword: Add them to your board titles & descriptions.
3: Fill each board with at least 5-10 relevant pins: Avoid empty boards!
Example Board Title & Description:
Board Name: Pinterest Marketing Tips for Small Businesses
Board Description: Learn how to use Pinterest for business, drive traffic to your website, and create viral pins. Pinterest marketing strategies, pin design tips, and more!
📌 Quick Action: Rename one of your boards using a keyword-rich title.
A good Pinterest strategy starts with good pins. If your pins aren’t visually appealing or don’t encourage clicks, you won’t get traffic.
1. Use bright, high-contrast images: Dark text on light background (or vice versa).
2. Make sure text is easy to read: No tiny fonts or script fonts that are hard to see.
3. Add a strong call-to-action (CTA), e.g:

📌 Quick Action: Look at your last 3 pins, do they have a clear CTA? If not, update them!
You don’t have to pin 20+ times per day to succeed on Pinterest. But you do need to be consistent.
1. Aim for 3-5 fresh pins per week: Pinterest favours fresh content over repins.
2. Batch & schedule your pins: Use Pinterest’s native scheduler.
3. Test different pin types: Try static, video, and carousel pins to see what works best.
Spend just 1 hour per week batching pins so you don’t have to think about it every day!
📌 Quick Action: Schedule 5 pins for the next week to stay consistent!
If you’re not checking your Pinterest Analytics, you’re missing out on key insights about what’s driving traffic.
1. Check your top-performing pins: What’s getting the most outbound clicks?
2. Look at what boards are performing well: Pin more content there!
3. Adjust based on what’s working: If a pin design or topic is getting clicks, create more of it.
Example of What to Look for in Analytics:
High Impressions and Low Clicks? Your pin is getting seen but not clicked (update the design or text).
High Clicks and Low Saves? Your audience is engaging, keep creating similar content!
📌 Quick Action: Open Pinterest Analytics and check your top 3 most-clicked pins. What do they have in common?
