I've been getting asked this question a lot recently so I thought I would take a moment to look at the reasons why Pinterest may or (may not) be a fab fit for your biz.
Yes, it's true – Pinterest is amazing for product-based businesses!
Pinners are actively seeking inspiration and planning purchases, and your product can show up on their smart feed if it's related to what they are searching for.
Pinterest calls it ‘inspired shopping'. If you have a product-based business you can create shoppable pins on Pinterest that drive traffic back to your website so Pinners can complete their purchase.
But you don't have to be a product-based business to see success on Pinterest!
Service-based businesses can also drive traffic and increase sales by using the platform 🙌
And you don't need a product to make sales. Your organic pins will be shown to people in their smart feed, much like shoppable pins, if Pinterest thinks that your content is relevant.
With each pin, you can direct people back to your blog, your lead-magnet, your Instagram, your Youtube channel, your sales pages (you get the idea).
It goes without saying that Pinterest is well known for sharing crafty ideas and recipes, but they are certainly not the only niches that do well on Pinterest.
If you have a product or a service that is inspiring, informative, desirable or helps to make people's lives better (even down to things like financial advice and DIY tips) then there is going to be an audience for you on Pinterest!
These are some of the more popular niches on Pinterest:
Unless you are in a position to outsource your Pinterest Management you are going to need to allocate time to create and schedule your pins.
You will need to share pins with fresh URLs on a regular basis – this could be links to new blogs, new products, YouTube videos or even Instagram posts. If you are working with just 2 or 3 URLs you are going to struggle to create fresh pins that inspire and excite your followers.
If your website isn't ready yet or you don't have anywhere relevant to point your traffic to, then it's a good idea to wait until you are ready. You want to give your Pinners the best experience possible!
Pinterest won't be for you if you're expecting immediate results. It's a long game and will pay off months down the line. If you are going to become disappointed with that and really not love spending time creating content for Pinterest during those initial months then I would say you need to think really carefully about it.
It's only going to work with consistent and sustained effort (but it WILL totally be worth it).
Pinterest can be exciting for so many different and unique brands.
The Pinterest audience is huge and there IS going to be an audience for your niche. The only thing you really need to ask yourself is if you are committed to creating content and showing up to inspire your audience?
